今回は2月28日に実施された660回例会 Ichiさんの英文レポートです
Feedback on the Meeting
It was a perfect, sunny, and warm spring day. 12 members (2 via remote) and 1 guest attended. The guest told us at the after-meeting mingling that an AI system suggested joining a Toastmasters club when he asked if there is a good way to brush up on his English speaking ability. Regarding the word of the day, TM ST provided the word “overcome.” To begin the meeting, we had difficulty setting up the Zoom function; however, TM MA devised another way to establish the remote communication method. VIVA! TM MA!
[Prepared speeches and Evaluations]
※スピーカーは、数週間前からスピーチの準備をし、本番（当日）に臨みます。スピーチ時間は約５～７分。それぞれいろいろな分野のスピーチを集めたPathというオンラインベースのマニュアルを使い、実践でプレゼン能力を鍛えます。すべてのスピーチは後続の論評セッションで感想や気づきを聞くことができます。湘南ではさらにSpeech後 はQuestion-and-Answerがあり、聴衆からの質問に答え、対応力を鍛えます
Ichi-san:
Because I, as TMOD for this meeting, did not have enough time to draw up a plan for the meeting program, I initially decided not to follow the regular format of including a prepared speech. However, TM MH volunteered to give a speech to polish the one she had performed at the speech contest. For the second prepared speech, TM RK also volunteered to give his first speech, even though this meeting was held right after his induction ceremony. I would just like to commend them for their great challenge.
[Table Topics Session]
その場で出されるテーマで2分間ほどの即興スピーチをする、とてもドキドキするセッションです。 論理性、説得性だけでなくカンと度胸も身につく世界共通のプログラムで、湘南ではお客様も含めて全員が挑戦します。
Ichi-san:
TM MA nicely presided over the Table Topics Session. She threw pretty witty topics at all the audience members, including the guest.
Miho-san: Theme: The last time you experienced…
- Movies at theaters – TM Ishii: He likes watching western movies starring John Wayne at home.
- Museum – TM Mutsumi: She visited the Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum with her daughter near Tokyo Station. She also enjoyed the nostalgic and elegant café inside the museum.
- Online Shopping – TM Cassa: He has never used online shopping himself, but his wife often uses it, for example, to book trips to New Zealand with a nice optional tour
- Spring – TM Takigawa: He feels the arrival of spring when he walks along the river and smells plum blossoms.
- Health Checkup – TM Ichi: His doctor advised him to lose weight, exercise regularly, and not drink too much. However, he does not follow most of this advice.
- Italy – TM Eiki: He couldn’t watch the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics because he was practicing his speech for the area contest. He likes the pair skaters Riku and Ryu.
- Started and Quit Soon – TM Hiroko: She practiced calligraphy for one year. She displayed one of her works in her room and hopes to restart it someday.
- Recommended Food – TM Ryu: He recommended a sushi bar in Ginza. It was reasonably priced and delicious. It cost about 20,000 yen for two people.
- Drama – TM Ueda: Aibou, starring Yutaka Mizutani, is one of his favorite dramas. He watches it while drinking alcohol.
- Music – TM Jade: She talked about Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, whom her husband likes.
- Animal – Guest Kouki-san: He enjoys petting cats and feeding them at a cat café.
[Award Session]
Ichi-san: TM IS received the Table Topics Award, and TM MA was named the TMOD Award winner. TM IS, TM MA Congratulations!!!
Overall, Meeting #660 went very well. Thank you to all the members who attended!
