Regular Meeting September 28, 2019

The meeting was held at a new venue F-place (藤沢公民館・労働会館等複合施設). We started the meeting at 14:20 as we always do with meetings at F-place.

President E. M. called the meeting to order and introduced our guest,TM H. M., Area B1 Director in District 4 in the U.S.  The Word of the Day “Engaging” was introduced by Grammarian TM M. H. 

Toastmaster of the Day TM E. M. introduced his 3 assistants, Grammarian TM M. H., Vote Counter TM K. I, and Timer TM T. K. a new member who took his first role in the club at this meeting.

Joke Session
Joke master TM T. O. told two short funny stories.

Prepared Speech Session
Two prepared speakers made their speeches under Competent Communication (CC) and Advanced Communication (AC). Also two prepared speakers made their speeches under the new education system “Pathways.”

1st Speech: TM K. I, CC, Inspire Your Audience
He is 80 years old. He passed two muddy roads in his life. One is singing Canzone on the stage many times. Another is to be business adviser for Minigolf Sport Association. He would like to survive by doing stretch and walking forever.

2nd Speech:TM T. U., Level 2-1, Understanding Your Leadership Style, Persuasive Influence
A leadership that He would like to cultivate. He thinks leadership style should fit a situation or relationship. It’s also necessary to receive feedback from people who works together. He have changed several leadership styles based on the situation. He realized through dialogues with his group members that one of the most important things for him is to be a good listener. The leadership that He would like to cultivate is to be a good listener.

3rd Speech: TM M. H.,Level 2 -3, Introduction to Toastmasters Mentoring, Dynamic Leadership
Support system called mentoring was used from the old time to help individuals to become more competent. Mentors provide helpful advice, guidance and working strategies to the individuals who need their support called Protégé. Life without a mentor is like a music made up with just one key . . .

4th Speech: TM H. M., AC “Persuasive Speaking” “Conquering the Cold Call”
Her speech is to promote an expensive product “Pathways” to members who resist transferring from the legacy to the pathways program. After Q&A, the speaker solves problems posed, so the members will feel comfortable transferring to Pathways .

Table Topics Session
Topicmaster TM T. O. gave following questions:
1. People are said to have a good appetite in autumn. How do you satisfy your good appetite in autumn?
2. Spring and autumn are the seasons almost all people like to spend. Which do you like better, spring or autumn? And why?
3. Autumn is characterized by the beauty of colored leaves. Could you recommend the best viewing spot for red leaves you have been to? And please describe how beautiful the spot is.
4. Japan is said to have characteristic four seasons in a year. What are four seasons like where you live in the U. S. compared to Japan?
5. Everyone has their own strong points and weak points. Could you tell us your strong points and weak points clearly?

Evaluation Session
General Evaluator TM T. O. presided the Evaluation session smoothly and 4 Evaluators, TM J. H., TM K. K., TM T. K., and TM E. M. did appropriate, encouraging evaluations.

After the meeting, today’s guest Area Director H. M. and club members enjoyed talking on their clubs at a restaurant of Fplace.

Regular Meeting September 14, 2019

The meeting was held at a new venue F-place (藤沢公民館・労働会館等複合施設) which was recently refurbished. We started the meeting at 14:20 as we will always do so with meetings at the F-place.  

President E. Mizuno called the meeting to order and introduced Area 55 Director Kiyomi Nozawa as guest to the members.  The Word of the Day “Ceiling” was introduced by Grammarian TM T. K. 

Toastmaster of the Day TM T. O introduced his 2 assistants, Grammarian and Vote Counter TM T. K, and Timer TM M. Y.

Joke Session
Joke master TM T. O told three short funny stories and asked 6 riddles.

Prepared Speech Session
All three prepared speakers made their speeches under the new education system “Pathways.”

1st Speaker is TM J. H.
Level 1 (L1-2-2) “Evaluation and Feedback”, “Innovative Planning.” 
She told her some experiences of learning English. She studied in San Francisco for one year and got a chance of the global voyage on board as a volunteer interpreter, and listened to the music radio program by English. And now she is working as a medical interpreter and trying to acquire much better skills as a medical interpreter for increasing foreigners in Japan.

2nd Speaker is TM E. Mizuno.
Level 1 (L1-3) “Researching and Presenting”,  “Innovative Planning.”
The Asahi investigated the relationship between grandparents and grandchildren from 215 grandparents. He told about his case with two grandchildren compared to the investigation. He told the present situation and concluded that he is getting old, on the contrary two grandchildren are getting independent, so he will be just watching the growth of them warmly.

3rd Speaker is TM T. Oku
Level 2 (L2-1) “Understanding Your Communication Style”, “Presentation Mastery.”
He told his basic communication style “steady and calm” was built in his childhood when he liked to read books alone and didn’t like to argue with the others and to make communication aggressively.  But the experiences in communicating with foreigners through his jobs and joining STMC have broadened his attitude toward communication style. And he wants STMC members to accept his basic communication style.

Table Topics Session
Table Topics Master TM M. H. took up 6 questions:

  1. Summer vacation was over. Have you ever been to abroad during summer vacation? Please tell us your most memorable trip or staying in abroad during summer vacation.
  2. Summer is fireworks festival season. Please tell us your most memorable fireworks festival.
  3. Consumption tax will be up from October. Do you have any plan to buy something before consumption tax increasing?
  4. Tokyo Olympic game will be held in next year and ticket sales started. Did you apply for it? If not, which sports do you want to see the most?
  5. It’s first time to hold regular meeting at this venue, F-place. How do you feel about this venue? Please tell us your impression.

General Evaluator TM T. U. presided at the Evaluation session smoothly and 3 Evaluators, TM E. M., TM Y. U., TM M. H., did appropriate, encouraging evaluation.

At the end of the meeting President E. M. asked A55 Director K. N to give a short comments. After the meeting Director N and club members enjoyed a social hour at a restaurant of F- place with a magnificent view of Fujisawa.
