2016/10/23 Division E Contest

In Japan, or District 76, there are 188 Toastmaster clubs, they are divided into 45 Areas and 8 Division from A to H. Division E includs 7 Areas and each Area has 4-5 clubs. Shonan Toastmasters Club belongs to Area 57, Division E.

On October 23, a Table Topics Speech Contest was held in Dvision E. Seven contestants who represented each Area competed on the stage.

TM N.N. represented our club and Area 57 participated in the English contest session. Our another member, TM M.H. who has multi club memberships represented other club to attend the contest too. Although they did not won an award, they performed very well.

2016/10/22 Regular meeting

The meeting is held in a new place, Fujisawa Meiten Building (藤沢名店ビル). Although the meeting room is not as big as usual place, it is enough and it is very near to Fujisawa station, very convenient.
What made us excited is that a guest attended the meeting. Guests are always welcomed!

Word of the day is “Sustain” or “Sustainable”, which is given by TM Kiribayashi. Our President, L. C. made a sentence, “We should be more Positive and Active to make our club sustainable”.

img_0404Before the meeting, the Induction Ceremony was held for our new member, TM H. M.. At the same time, he became one of us.
Welcome and Congratulations!

After the Induction Ceremony, jokmaster, TM Y.O. talked funny stories from his experience. One of them was at a academic medical conference. In the conference, he was approached by four-young-beautiful ladies and he got their phone numbers. Why he was approached by beautiful ladies at the medical conference?  We envy him, but behind the fact, there is a hidden funny story. 

At the prepared speech session, five speakers made their wonderful speeches.
TM K.I. is the first speaker, he made a speech titled “Marching song is the best medicine for Dementia”.
The second speaker is TM T.M. who talked a touching story titled “My Rio Olympics”.
dsc04841TM N.S. is the third speaker, she spoke her speech titled “Happy Halloween” with Halloween hat and a caved pumpkin, which just fit the season.

The fourth speaker is TM Y.T.. The speech title is “four Cs” that stands for Curiosity, Confidence, Courage and Constancy. She said that she got four Cs now through Toastmasters.

The last speaker is T.I. who made a Roast speech to the club President, L.C., tiled “Congratulations”.

The next session, Table Topics was hosted by TM A.M.. He prepared seven questions.
Q1. What are you motivated to enter this club? It was answered by the new member, TM H.M..
Q2. What was the most impressive event you remembered in the fall? TM Y.H. answered it.
Q3. When you went abroad,what kind of something strange did you feel? This question went to guest, Mr. N.H..
Q4. When you stayed abroad, coming back to Japan at Narita or Haneda, what did you want to do in Japan? This question was answered by TM N.N..
Q5. This month, what’s the most impressing events? TM A.T. answered it.
Q6. What’s the event you’re looking forward? It was answered by TM T.O..
Q7. What’s the most impressive movie you watched? TM Y.U. answered it.

The last session is Evaluation, which was hosted by General Evaluator, TM M.H.. Five Evaluators gave helpful advice and feedback to each speaker.

The meeting was held successfully and was controlled perfectly. It was hosted by Toastmaster of the Day, TM S.N.. Although this is his first time to attend a meeting after a long time of absence, he did a good job!

2016/10/08 Regular meeting

It was raining in the morning, but it turned to be sunny in the afternoon. 19 fellow members and 1 guest attended the meeting. The number of attendees is historically low, so we need to be more positive and active!

Word of the day was “Superior“, which was presented by TM E.M..

In the business session, VPPR, TM M.H. introduced this website that was built newly and was just publicized from Oct. 09.

Toastmaster of the day or TMOD was TM Y.T. who is a veteran Toastmaster and a good English speaker.

At beginning of the meeting, jokmaster, TM M.K. talked four funny stories. The first one was about a small old woman who was eating a senbei appeared with turning seat of the train that I got on, the second story was that I had been told “There is no hope, but there is light”, the third one was about that Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi challenged to use Japanese chopsticks in Japan travel, and the last story was that a consideration about a joke and Japanese people ~ They can laugh at one joke three times. Each one was funny and made audiences laugh.

In the prepared speech session, five speakers delivered their speeches. The first speaker was TM V.W. whose title was “I’m Koike, Shinzo (New Japanese prime minister)”, which was a persuasive speech with many humorous points. The second speaker was TM K.K. whose project was “Delivering bad news”, the title was “Club Dues Hike”.  The third speaker was TM A.M. whose title was “Have you ever experienced an impulse shopping?” The fourth speaker, TM L.C.  delivered a humourous speech titled “How to determine if you are addicted to Toastmasters”. The last speaker was TM T.O. whose speech was “Fujisawa Ukiyo-e Museum is worth visiting”, he introduced Fujisawa Ukiyo-e Munseum and recommended audiences to visit it. Finally, the fourth speaker, TM L.C.  was voted to be the best speaker.

In the Table Topic session, TM T.N. asked five questions about the most memorable story or personal experience in Autumn. Q1: Tell us about your most impressed book in life and why?, TM A.M. answered it. Q2: Tell us about your most beautiful autumn leaves you have ever enjoyed, which was answered by TM E.M.. Q3: Tell us about your favorite music you enjoyed when you were young, say, in your twenty’s or in your thirty’s, this question went to TM T.I.. Q4: Tell us about your most memorable athletic meet in your childhood, TM M.K. answered it. Q5: Tell us about your memories of seven-five-three festival of your children or grandchildren, which was answered by TM K.K..

Finally, TM M.H. hosted the evaluation session. Five evaluators gave appropriate advice to each prepared speakers about their speeches, which were very helpful.

Thanks to TMOD, TM Y.T. controlled the meeting sophistically and successfully.

mr-miyazaki Welcome Mr. H.M. join us!

After the regular meeting, the Declaration Ceremony was held for Mr. H.M., this is his third time visit us and he would like to join us. He said in this declaration message that the reason why he want to become a member of this club is mainly because he is interested in boosting Japanese tourism industry, in order to contribute to that situation as one of Japanese he determine to improve his communication skill in English through this club‘s activities.  What a wonderful and impressive massage! All of us are very excited to have Mr. H.M. be one of us. We hope that he will achieve a lot through Toastmasters club activities. 

2016/10/02 Shonan Victorious at A57 Contest

● Shonan had an amazing results at Area 57 tabletopics contest held on October 2nd at Odawara.
Two representatives from Shonan clinched first and second places for English contest!
Congratulations Toastmasters N.N and H.S.
Toastmaster N.N will proceed to Division Contest scheduled on October 23rd at Yokosuka.

Winner N.N – Best wishes for the big day on October 23rd when you will compete as one of 7 contestants from each area of Division E:  Area 51 to Area 57.

More than 12 members attended from Shonan on October 2nd to support four representatives from Shonan, two speakers each for Japanese and English Contests. All speakers made a great impromptu speech that made us proud of Shonan (as always . . .)
